Weekday Mass . . . interested?

5/21/2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic we have not had Mass, or received Communion. While some parishes have re-opened for Mass on a limited basis, we have not done so at St. Charles. We continue to rely on our Sunday Zoom Liturgy of the Word.

At a recent meeting of the Liturgy Committee, it was discussed that we should poll the St. Charles community to see if there are people who really want to attend a weekday mass for the sake of receiving the Eucharist. The conditions and guidelines for attending mass are:
  • Attend at your own risk
  • No more than 25 persons
  • Sign up in advance with name and phone number
  • List of attendees would be handed over to the State if requested
  • Sanitize hands going in
  • Physical distancing required at all times
  • Facemasks to be worn
  • Communion with bread only
  • No singing, holy water, exchange of peace
  • No congregating before or after

If you would like to attend weekday Mass under these conditions, please indicate on the form below.

Alice is one answering this. If the number pf participants remains small for weekend Masses I would gladly attend a Mass during the week.

Thanks Alice (and John). Hope you both are well.

It would depend on the time of day, considering the distance involved for me.

I think several things need to be clarified for me to say yes to this poll.
1- the sign up list be not shared with Govt agencies
2- a plan for making the sign up plan be equitable and fair to all not just those who are quickest to sign on.
3- Will the week day Mass be actually a Sunday type Mass or a weekday mass, but with a homily?
4- Is the prohibition from the Archbishop have some wiggle room for a Communion Service yet?

Margaret,
Good questions.
1. If the state asks for the sign up sheet(s) we will have to turn it over to them, for purposes of contact tracing. The only reason they would ask for it is if there is COVID case, at which time we won't have a choice but to turn it over to them.
2. Yes, if we do this there will be a fair and equitable reservation system.
3. The weekday mass will be just that--a weekday mass. It won't be a Sunday Mass.
4. The Archbishop has said 'no' to Communion Service. Sorry.

Will the Host be touched by anyone, how will it be distributed (with tongs)?
If Father coughs how will the Host be protected?
Can we know ahead of time who else will be at the mass?

Judy, also good questions:
1. The priest is instructed to disinfect his hands just prior to distributing Communion. He will touch the hosts.
2. The priest is instructed to wear a face covering while distributing Communion.
3. The list of those coming to Mass will not be shared with anyone . . . unless the State requests the list (see my response to Margaret above).
