A Critical Issue . . .
Educating ourselves about “natural gas” is the first step to making changes and taking effective action. We want you to understand how this product is not all it's cracked up to be. In fact, it's FRACTed UP! Natural Gas is a fossil fuel, primarily methane, and as such it is a huge contributor to global warming. The bad news is that methane is worse than CO2 in the short-term, trapping heat 86 times more effectively than CO2 in the first 20 years of its release. The good news is lowering methane levels is our best hope of mitigating the effects of climate change in the next 10 years. The U.S. put forth the Methane Challenge to lower methane levels; 30 countries have signed on! Yet, globally, in the U.S. and Oregon, we are now using more, not less "natural gas", creating more methane than ever before.
