Reflect

Visio Divina Prayer and Reflection:
Among the many ways to pray, Visio Divina (Latin for "divine seeing") is a method for praying with images or other media. Visio Divina is the practice of looking at a painting or a photograph and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the Art. We will begin our Visio Divina prayer this week with the creation story from Genesis 1:1-5

How to find a Bible Passage
  • “Genesis” is the first book of the Bible in the Old Testament. Use the table of contents to find where Genesis begins.
  • The number ‘1’ stands for the chapter. Look for the bold number ‘1’ in the book of Genesis.
  • The numbers ‘1-5’ directs you to read the verses one through five.

Steps for Visio Divina prayer:
  • Read aloud the scripture passage: Genesis 1:1-5
  • Look at the image. What is the first thing you notice in the picture?
  • Now, look at the whole image. What comes to mind?
  • What does the Bible passage and image mean to you?
  • Share your thoughts about each question with your family.

  • Bonus: Read the entire creation story from Genesis 1:1-31

For Parents

For a greater understanding of the creation story, listen to Genesis Day One from The Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz.

Focus

Jesus used the same phrase "I AM" in seven declarations about Himself. We will read and explore these statement in the coming weeks. To being our Eucharistic journey, take a few minutes to ponder these questions:
  • How do you see Jesus?
  • What words describe Jesus?
  • Write your words on paper.

Watch

Watch these videos with your child. They are short!
