The life and spirituality of St. Oscar Romero reveal the cross as the place where the Gospel collides with the power, greed, and violence of the world.  This Lent, come explore Jesus’ call to “take up your cross and follow” him with this remarkable saint and martyred Archbishop of San Salvador as our guide.  Romero’s understanding of the cross as simultaneously spiritual and political offers us a challenging yet hopeful vision of discipleship for Christians in our struggle to give witness to a God of Life amidst the reality of climate catastrophe, endless wars, and racial oppression.   

Fumi Tosu is a Social Justice teacher at De La Salle North Catholic High School, and author of The Way of the Cross with St. Oscar Romero.  He is a former member of the Catholic Worker community in San Jose, CA, as well as a peace activist and storyteller.  He has his Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley.
