Have you been wondering what is going on with the Oak Leaf?  Many from St. Charles fought hard to save the Oak Leaf mobile Home residents from displacement and to preserve the park as permanent affordable housing for the neighborhood.  Since that time,  St Vincent de Paul (SVDP) of Lane County has worked tirelessly to clear logistical and financial barriers and make the dream a reality.  The Interfaith Alliance on Poverty (IAP), took on the very important task of accompanying residence through the difficult process of temporary relocation (they would like to have volunteers from St. Charles in this work).  Living Cully is preparing to install solar panels once the parks new community center is built (they are currently installing panels on the roof of St. Charles).   St. Charles staff have provided assistance to SVDP and the IAP and continue to provide space for the residents to hold monthly meetings.
The new park will have, all new utilities, a playground, community center,  brand new, energy efficient homes, a security gate at the front entrance, and an onsite social worker.
The Oak Leaf has become a model of what can happen when low-income residents organize,  community organizations come together on common ground, and dreams are allowed to be bold and courageous.  Thanks to everyone who lent a hand to make this a reality!

Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the Eucharist.
