During the first half of May 2021, a survey was conducted by the parish staff in order to narrow down which social justice issue the parish can focus on within the parameters of its current capabilities. The survey was created in a paper format which was available in the parish foyer, and a digital version on the parish website. That way parishioners would be able to fill out the survey in either format they choose. Additionally, the survey was available in both English and Spanish.
Results from the survey show that parishioners from the parish community would like to focus on “racial justice/injustice“. These results were reported back to the parish staff and social justice committee, and the committee is currently brainstorming and teasing ideas of action to help the parish contribute to this particular issue.
Thus far, there are a few resources available on our parish website regarding racial justice/injustice, especially under the fourth “playlist“ from the Spiritual Growth Challenge titled Racial Reconciliation. Other ideas include the concept of taking biblical origin stories and implementing them during worship, while simultaneously highlighting parishioners personal experiences regarding racial justice/injustice.
