Revolution of Tenderness - Dec 3, 2017

Another good turnout for our second GIFT Sunday. The topic was Revolution of Tenderness. The goals were to 1) understand Pope Francis’ notion of tenderness with respect to Solidarity, 2) hear stories of relational tenderness as inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan, and 3) reflect on and respond to our own call to engage in relational tenderness and solidarity with others.See pictures, program info, and results below.

A Story of Tenderness
by Ginger O'Harrow (click title)

Here's what we did!
  1. Eat. We started with a terrific meal of chili, cornbread, and cookies.
  2. Sing. We sang the GIFT song. Listen to it here.
  3. Pray. We prayed the GIFT prayer. See it here.
  4. Story. We formed intergenerational groups and explored the Parable of the Long Spoons by viewing these two videos: Video #1, Video #2.
  5. Reading. We read aloud the words of Pope Francis on Tenderness. (See below)
  6. Watch. We viewed this video on the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
  7. Sharing. We heard stories of tenderness from Diego Gonzalez, Jesus Amaro, and Ginger O'Harrow. (See links to  the left.)
  8. Talk. We discussed these questions: Who is your 'hero' of tenderness? Who do you know who needs an expression of tenderness today? How will you give it to them?
  9. Sing. We ended by singing the GIFT song.
From Pope Francis

Revolution of Tenderness
“And what is tenderness? It is the love that comes close and becomes real. It is a movement that starts from our heart and reaches the eyes, the ears and the hands. Tenderness means to use our eyes to see the other, our ears to hear the other, to listen to the children, the poor, those who are afraid of the future.” – Pope Francis

" – Pope Francis
