Construction & Renovation

Project for De La Salle North Catholic High School

Latest Update - November 3, 2020
Construction and renovation is ongoing!  The Parish Center has been converted to our new Parish Offices and we moved in on Wednesday, October 21st.  The SVDP food panty has also moved into their new space behind the chapel and they re-opened for Saturdays 10am - noon.

Here is an overview of the total work to be done:
  1. Convert Parish Center into new Parish Offices and meeting room. DONE!
  2. Renovation of the entire school building, plus gym and kitchen for school use, with some shared space for parish use.
  3. Construct new Commons (cafeteria) and Kitchen, new gymnasium, and courtyard for shared school/parish use.
  4. Develop new parking lot in the space of the former community garden.

Let's get a little more detailed. Here's what is planned for this summer.

Beginning July, we can expect to see . . .
  • Staging of building equipment on the former community garden space. DONE!
  • Reconfiguration of parking spaces just outside the north church door to add more spaces.
  • Slight remodel of Men's restroom in the Church to be handicap accessible, and convert to all-person restroom. We'll also spruce up the space too: painting, new sink and ceiling tiles.
  • Asbestos abatement in all school rooms, except SVDP room, and Parish Office. (School restrooms will be closed.) DONE!
  • Renovation of northwest corner of church building to make room for SVDP pantry.  DONE!
  • Building of storage in chapel and church. DONE!
  • Renovation of Parish Center into new Parish Offices and Meeting Room. DONE!

Beginning September 1, we can expect . . .
  • No more parking in the parking lot.
  • Parking spaces available (#1-6) at north Church door and (#7-20) near former community garden.
  • Weekend parking at PCC
  • Work on the current gym, main kitchen and Rooms 2 & 3 (near the former Parish Center).

Beginning Sept 24, we can expect to see . . . DONE!
  • SVDP Pantry move into newly renovated space in the northwest corner of church building.

Week of October 19, we can expect to see . . .DONE!
  • Parish Offices move into former Parish Center space.

Things to note:
  • Use of gym. We had hoped to retain use of the gym until late fall for Sunday hospitality, and key parish events like Spaghetti Dinner and other events. However, due to the need for seismic upgrading of the entire school building and gym, that will not be possible. The seismic work must be done prior to the renovation work.
  • Parking. During the construction period until late summer of 2021, parking will be a challenge. During this period we will have six parking spaces at the north Church door (two handicap spaces), and, on Saturday and Sunday, we will have an additional 14 parking spaces near the former community garden. Also, for Saturday evening and Sunday morning, we have arranged to use parking space on the PCC campus at the northeast corner of 42nd and Killingsworth.  We ask that close-in parking be kept available for those who need it.
  • Traffic flow during construction - always enter on 42nd Avenue
  1. Monday through Friday: The Killingsworth Street driveway is closed during the week. Use 42nd Ave driveway to enter and exit.
  2. On weekends: traffic flow is one-way only - enter on 42nd Ave and exit onto Killingsworth Street.
  • Choir Loft. DONE! The curtains  to hide  the storage have been installed.  The organ remains visible.
