Youth Ministry has asked our youth leadership team to begin reflecting on the Gospels.  Parents are encouraged to work their children in this process, diving deeper into an exploration of the faith together.  If you are a parent of a high school youth and you or your child is interested please contact Gabe at gabet@stcharlespdx.org. Resources are available to help guide you.   Check in to the bulletin and the Church website to keep up to date with youth reflection on the Gospel

Youth Reflection

In this reading, it tells you of when Jesus has resurrected and the disciples have seen him and they received the Holy Spirit. The only one that wasn't with the group was Thomas, and he doesn’t believe that what they say is the truth. But when he does see Jesus, he says "My Lord and my God". One thing that is shown in this passage is just the normal "human reaction", and how we need proof in order to believe. It took Thomas to see the wounds in Jesus's hands and feet in order to believe. That is very similar to how it’s like in our life; we need to have proof of something in order to believe because if you try to believe without an interaction with anything, you will lose hope.

A number of years ago during my annual retreat, we did an imaginary prayer.  Prayer like this usually has the person conversing with Jesus in their imagination.  As the prayer unfolded, Jesus came to the door of the house.  I answered it and was so glad to see Jesus and invited him in.  He said, “Can I bring in some of my friends?” I looked out beyond him and saw a multitude of people, some of whom I liked and some who I did not like, nor did I want to be around them, especially not in the same house.  My heart sank, but what could I do but say but yes.  If we want Jesus we have to take all his friends as well.

Palm Sunday, Year A
Leif Kehrwald

Listen to the recording, or read the text below.

As we contemplate the passion and death of Jesus, how are we supposed to feel? How are we to respond to all this? How do we get through it? How does this go?

Brings to mind the refrain of a song by Jane Siberry:
Calling all angels, calling all angels
Walk me through this one, don't leave me alone
Calling all angels, calling all angels
We're tryin', we're hopin' but we're not sure how . . .

Fifth Sunday of Lent, Year A
Sr Phyllis Jaszkowiak

Listen to the recording or read the text below.

These past three Sundays, including today, we have heard three great stories of conversion.  We have seen three great signs that Jesus is the One who brings us to wholeness and to abundant life.  Each of these stories leads us into a deeper conversion, into a deeper relationship with God, with Jesus.
